Destino o determinazione? /Destiny or determination?

When I was 14 I wanted to be a shop assistant so I worked in a shop at weekends. I left school at 15 to be an industrial seamstress on a three year apprenticeship course. I got married at 17. As soon as I got my certificate at 18 I left and worked as a bookbinder at Heffers in Cambridge but then I had to leave to become a mother at 19. Later, when my daughter was 9mths old I went out to work again as a ward assistant part-time in a hospital at weekends. 

At 22 I became a mother again. Later, I went back to work as a ward assistant part-time. In 1981 we came to live in Italy and I had to do cleaning jobs because I couldn't do anything else. I soon settled and became a sales representative two years later. One day, luckily for me, I was asked to help a boy in his English homework and it was a success! In 1984 I started teaching English and worked as a freelance English teacher in private schools for over 30 years. I only had a break from teaching from 2004-2006 to manage a shop in Florence! 

Quando avevo 14 anni volevo fare la commessa, quindi lavoravo in un negozio nei fine settimana. Ho lasciato la scuola a 15 anni per fare la sarta industriale con un corso di apprendistato triennale. Mi sono sposato a 17 anni. Non appena ho ottenuto il certificato a 18 anni ho lasciato e ho lavorato come rilegatrice di libri presso Heffers a Cambridge, ma poi ho dovuto lasciare per diventare madre a 19 anni. Più tardi, quando mia figlia aveva 9 mesi, sono tornata a lavorare part-time come assistente di reparto in un ospedale nei fine settimana. 

A 22 anni sono diventata di nuovo mamma. In seguito sono tornata a lavorare part-time come assistente di reparto. Nel 1981 siamo venuti a vivere in Italia e io dovevo fare lavori di pulizia perché non potevo fare altro. Mi sono presto sistemata e sono diventato una rappresentante di vendita due anni dopo. Un giorno, per mia fortuna, mi è stato chiesto di aiutare un ragazzo a fare i compiti di inglese ed è stato un successo!  Nel 1984 ho iniziato a insegnare inglese e ho lavorato come insegnante di inglese freelance in scuole private per oltre 30 anni. Ho preso solo una pausa dall'insegnamento dal 2004 al 2006 e ho gestito un negozio a Firenze!
