Buona vita!

Era una bellissima giornata di primavera e io facevo le pulizie di casa. Ad un tratto sentii grattare alla porta d'ingresso. Andai a vedere cosa poteva essere e aprendo la porta un gatto entrò dentro. A me piacciono molto i gatti, infatti ne ho avuti tanti, e in quel periodo avevo una gatta di nome Pinky. Mi sembrava affamato e così gli ho dato da mangiare. Poi, l'ho coccolato un pò e mandato fuori. Il giorno dopo, di nuovo lì alla porta. Gli ho dato di nuovo il cibo e coccole...e arrivederci!

Continuò a venire da me per diversi giorni. Avevo notato che era ingrassato e pensavo era dovuto al mio nutrimento. Un giorno non venne e io mi preoccupai. Mi ero già affezionata a questo gatto. Passò un altro giorno ancora e sentii grattare alla porta. Tutta contenta corsi ad aprire e infatti era il gatto, ma non volle entrare. Camminava su e giù come impazzito e mi guardava fisso negli occhi. Non so perchè ma intuii che dovevo seguirlo.

Il cielo si era coperto di nuvole nere e un temporale stava per esplodere. Il gatto andò verso una fossa nel terreno che si era creata sotto uno scarico di un canale d'acqua. Si infilò nella fossa, io mi affacciai dentro e rimasi stupita dalla scena apparsa davanti ai miei occhi. C'era la gattA con i suoi sei gattini! Era diventata MAMMA. Che gioia!! In un lampo capii che dovevo fare alla svelta prima che venisse giù l'acquazzone.

Corsi in casa e presi una scatola. Andai verso la fossa e presi i gattini mettendoli nella scatola. Lei mi guardava attentamente ma si fidava di me. Li portai in casa con la gatta alle calcagna e neanche un attimo dopo venne giù il diluvio universale! Salvati per puro miracolo.

La gatta si sdraiò per terra e i gattini corsero tutti a succhiare ai suoi seni. Andai in cucina a prendere la cesta della mia gatta e ci misi i gattini dentro. Non riesco a descrivere l'emozione che si sente a vedere un tale spettacolo: mamma gatta e sei gattini ai suoi seni! Pinky non fu molto contenta per un pò di tempo.

Ormai erano passate diverse settimane, i gattini crescevano splendidamente e io incominciavo a preoccuparmi per il loro futuro. Così mi recai dal veterinario per sentire cosa dovevo fare e lui mi disse che mi avrebbe aiutata a trovare dei genitori adottivi per loro. Nei giorni seguenti vennero tante persone a vederli e scelsero il loro gattino. Piazzati tutti! Ora rimaneva solo la gatta e io non potevo tenerla. Fortunatamente, una delle persone che prese un gattino viveva in campagna e mi disse che avrebbe preso anche la gatta. Fui felicissima per lei. Il veterinario la sterilizzò così ora poteva riposare.

Non dimenticherò mai la fiducia che la gatta ha avuto in me e sarò sempre onorata che ho potuto aiutarla a salvare i suoi bimbi. Buona vita!

Happy life!

It was a beautiful spring day and I was doing my housework. Suddenly I heard scratching on the front door. I went to see what it could be and as I opened the door a cat came in. I like cats very much, in fact I have had quite a few, and in that period I had a female cat called Pinky. It seemed hungry so I fed it. Then, I cuddled it for a while and sent it out. The day after, it was there again at the door. I fed it again and cuddled it...and bye bye!

It kept coming back for a few days. I had noticed that it had put on weight and thought it had been my nourishment. One day it did not come and I got worried. I had already got fond of that cat. Another day went by and I heard the scratching on the door. I was really happy and ran to open it and in fact it was the cat, but it did not come in. It walked up and down in a crazy way and stared at me. I do not know why but I felt I should follow it.

The sky was covered with black clouds and soon there would be a heavy shower. The cat went towards a hole in the ground dug by a drainpipe. It went into the hole, I looked in and could not believe my eyes. There was the cat with HER six kittens!! SHE had become a mother. What joy!!! I knew at once I had to be quick before it rained cats and dogs!

I ran into the house and got a box. Then, I went back to the hole, grabbed the kittens and put them in the box. She followed my every move but trusted me. I took them inside with the mother close behind and one moment later the universal flood came down! They were miraculously safe.

The cat lay down on the floor and all the kittens ran to her to suck her breasts. I went to the kitchen and fetched my cat's basket and I put the kittens in there. I can't describe the feeling I got contemplating such a scene: mother cat with six kittens at her breasts! Pinky, was not so happy
for a while.

A few weeks had gone by and the kittens were growing splendidly and I started to worry about their future. So, I paid a visit to the veterinary surgeon and asked him what I should do. He told me he would help me to find adoptive parents for them. The following days a lot of people came to see them and they all chose their kitten. All settled! Now only the mother cat remained and I could not keep her. Fortunately, the people who took a kitten lived in the country and said they would take the mother, too. I was really happy for her. The vet sterilized her so she could have a rest now.

I will never forget the way that cat trusted me and I will always be honored to have been able to save her babies. Happy life!
